Lauren Dagle was still in college when she met Annabelle, a rescue dog that feared even the littlest things around her. She felt sorry for her so she thought she’d help by fostering. She picked her up and brought her home.
Shelter workers told Lauren that Annabelle was picked up as a stray. They didn’t know how long she’s been out on her own. But the wounds all over her body indicated that she was used in dogfighting in the past.
Annabelle was underweight. She was withdrawn and didn’t want to do anything at all. She just sat in a corner all day long. She let her foster mom pet her but she did not reciprocate the affection she gave her.
It was the saddest thing, Lauren described. The poor dog was comfortable just to be on her own. When she tried to get her upstairs to sleep in her room, the pup just looked at her and pancaked herself on the floor.
Eventually, Annabelle started warming up to her foster mom. She wanted to be beside her all the time. She demanded hugs and always sought attention from her. She turned out to be a very goofy but incredibly loving dog.
Soon, it was time for Annabelle to leave. Lauren dropped her off and she cried once she left the shelter. It just didn’t feel right, she told herself.
Right at that moment, Lauren called her sister Krystyna and asked her for help. She knew what she needed so she applied to adopt the dog. It took a short while but eventually, Anabelle came back and reunited with her mom.
Lauren was emotional when Annabelle arrived home. Even the dog was so happy to see her mom again. They spent a good minute hugging. They knew that they were meant to spend their lives together.
