Although many people like adopting dogs, some really don’t know how to take care of them. When these people realize that having a dog is a huge responsibility, they eventually give up and surrender them in shelters or just abandon them.
In Kern County, the shelters often see an influx of dogs being surrendered and abandoned during the summer months.
Many of the dogs surrendered in shelters are in terrible shape and often need medical treatment. Thankfully, an organization based at Tehachapi called Marley’s Mutts works with the shelters around Kern County and provides care for unwanted dogs. One particular dog stood out from the rest.
A dog named Jada was surrendered at the Kern County Animal Shelter. Jada was in a horrible condition and no one thought that she would survive. When Marley’s Mutts founder, Jack Skow, learned about Jada, he put a team together to help Jada.
Jada’s back was covered in severe burns and Jack stated that it was the worst case that he’d ever seen. However, Jack was quite surprised that despite Jada’s horrific injuries, Jada remained positive and showed everyone that she wanted to live. Encouraged by Jada’s spirit, Jack and his team had no other option but to rescue Jada.
The vets who treated Jada were cautiously optimistic about Jada’s recovery and survival. However, after a few days at the hospital, Jada became well enough to go to her foster home. Jack and a medical foster parent took over Jada’s care and they would clean her wounds and change her dressing every 48 hours. Jada is so patient with the entire process and would even give kisses to the person caring for her as a form of appreciation.
Despite all the pain she’s feeling and her body is wrapped in bandages, Jada always smiles and always asks for cuddles from everyone. Jack and his team are sure that Jada won’t have any problems finding a family that wants her. Here’s a heartwarming video telling Jada’s story about her resilience and loving nature that defied all odds.
