How far would dog owners go to make their four-legged friend feel loved? One father won the Internet when he wore an e-collar to sympathize with his dog, who had to wear one after surgery!
The dog’s name is Ollie, a seven-year-old Labrador who lives with his family in Berkshire, England. Ollie had a lump in his eyelid that needed surgical removal. Thankfully, the cyst wasn’t cancerous, and Ollie was on his way to recovery. The only thing left for the canine to do is wear his e-collar until his sutures fully heal.
The e-collar or Elizabethan collar is also known as the ‘cone of shame. It is a hood made of plastic or fabric wrapped around an animal’s head to keep it from licking or biting a wound. It is instinctive for animals, especially dogs, to lick their wounds, which delays healing and may result in infection or further injury.
However, we all know how most dogs hate wearing e-collars. It’s inconvenient and extremely uncomfortable to have something wrapped around your head. Ollie was no exception to this, and he hated every minute he had his cone on.
One day, Alex’s dad did something unforgettable, and she felt she had to capture everything on video. She saw Ollie and her dad sitting together in the living room. They appeared to be having a private moment together as the two shared a cuddle. But the hilarious part in the video was the dad wearing a huge e-collar, just like Ollie!
When Alex uploaded the video on TikTok, she wrote that it was not at all characteristic of her father to make such a gesture for their pet. Her dad always objected to having a dog at home, but he loved it the most.
Alex also shared that her father is the type who enjoys making everyone laugh, and she wasn’t so sure if he put the cone on to make the family laugh or to make Ollie feel better. Regardless of his intention, his actions helped Ollie feel better wearing the cone.
The viral video gained a million views and 175,000 likes. It also earned a lot of positive comments from different people, saying how much they were entertained by the dad’s actions. Some shared similar experiences of their dads not wanting a pet dog but ending up being the most attached!
