Evan Bisnauth, an 11-year-old boy, became the youngest cartoon video creator to help the canines at an animal shelter called Animal Care Centers of NYC get adopted.
It all started when his mom discovered a program called Books with Boroughbreds, held by the ACC, that motivates children to read storybooks and socialize with homeless dogs. Evan’s mom thought it was a good idea for him to join and participate. He agreed, and the two of them took a bus heading to the shelter.
Once they arrived at the ACC shelter, Evan knew right away he would do just fine and have a good time. On his first day of reading duty, a few dogs barked at him, but they behaved when he started reading. Afterward, he didn’t want to stop and kept reading for five hours. There, it encouraged him to come back every Saturday and Sunday.
With the books he read, Belly Rubbins for Bubbins became one of his favorites. The story is about a dog living in a shelter and finally getting adopted. Every time Evan reads this story to his furry friends, it keeps their spirits high, knowing they will find their forever family very soon.
However, he couldn’t come back and visit the shelter because of the pandemic the world’s facing now. But he didn’t want to give up and thought of other ways so he could help the canines with their adoption. This resulted in him creating a Facebook page named EB and the Pets, where he posted original cartoon adoption videos he made.
Evan’s videos gained a lot of viewers, having the dogs get instantly adopted. He was happy and proud that his furry buddies found themselves in a new home.
Because of his dedication and determination to help shelter dogs, he received the 2021 ASPCA’s Kid of the Year award. Evan hopes that the passion he has could inspire people and even kids to help animals in need.
