Since she was a little girl, Dr. Sue Lynch has adored animals. Her passion for helping dogs led her to become a veterinarian. The Colorado Springs resident would even volunteer her time and services to the local shelter. This is where she met a Chihuahua named Jim.
The little dog needed immediate treatment, and Sue was on duty at that time. She eventually offered to foster the injured pooch to ensure his recovery. What she didn’t count on was her family falling in love with Jim.
Accident
Jim arrived at the shelter where Sue was working after someone called to report that a car hit the canine. When rescuers found him, the small dog was on the side of the road and was in immense pain. Because her pelvis was shattered, Sue had no choice but to amputate one of his legs. It was the only way to save his life and relieve the pain.
What amazed Sue was Jim’s demeanor throughout the treatment process. Despite the pain, he remained a sweet pooch. This pushed her to foster the Chihuahua. She had to make sure the dog would recover well from his injuries. At the same time, the kind vet wanted to have the dog in a loving environment.
Permanent home
With a vet as a foster mom, Jim healed well. And once he didn’t feel any pain and discomfort anymore, he started to flourish. The dog became playful and even more affectionate. Having only three legs didn’t seem to slow him down.
Sue and her family fell head over heels in love with him. They just knew they couldn’t let him leave. Sue said her family had a meeting, and they decided to adopt Jim. They didn’t want him to go not knowing what his future would be.
Getting hit by a car and almost dying is a great tragedy. But in Jim’s case, it led to his new and wonderful life with a family that adores him.
