Charlie Brown didn’t know how to be a dog. After being rescued from an Amish puppy mill in Ohio where he spent his entire life, he did not even know how to wag his tail. He was abused there as a stud dog for five years.
He was very shy but he was a gentle dog. And Bailey’s family decided to foster him during quarantine. On his first day at home, he was unsure of his surroundings. When they went out for a walk, he just pancaked on the ground.
He did not move no matter how much they encouraged him. But everyone was patient with him and every day they tried to get him to walk one step further. After a week, Charlie grew braver and less nervous.
Day after day, Charlie became more familiar with the feeling of walking. But there was another hurdle in the house. It was Belle, Bailey’s rescue dog, who wanted to play with him but he did not seem to know how to play with her. Bailey and Belle were home from New York because of quarantine.
She kept approaching him but he just sat still and looked at her. And then after two weeks of being home, Charlie came out to Bailey and her mom as they were sitting outside. Then finally, he learned how to wag his tail and he just looked so happy. Shortly after, Charlie Brown walked and this time around, there was spring in his steps.
A week after that, he picked up a toy for the first time and played with it. After a little over four weeks of spending time with the family, Charlie learned to love walks, and he and Belle enjoyed playing together.
And then they finally decided to fully adopt Charlie Brown. With patience, love, and care, the Charlie Brown who didn’t know to be a dog transformed into a loving and playful one.
