Tofu, a Great Dane, came to Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue in the worst state. He weighed less than 100 pounds when he should be between 110 and 115 lbs. He was skinny, partially blind, and hearing impaired.
The rescue group knew it would help him decompress much faster in a home environment so they decided to put him in foster with Jordann Alyse. He was a bit confused at first when he arrived in his foster home, but he quickly found the couch and felt at home almost instantly.
Jordan lives with her four dogs – a female Great Dane, a female and male Greyhound, and a female Labrador mix. She fosters dogs all the time, and from the moment Tofu came, she knew he was an anxious dog. He had to be beside her all the time or he’d whine relentlessly.
Tofu needed a little time to get along with his foster siblings but warmed up almost immediately with Zoot, the Great Dane. They got along perfectly. Despite the very short time they shared, they were pretty much the best of friends.
One day, Jordann crated Tofu and Zoot in the laundry room while she ran errands. Through the security camera, she checked the dogs and saw that Tofu routinely cried. He barked and whined on the door, waiting for her to come.
The anxious dog was frantic, but when he got tired, he lay down for a moment. Zoot felt a little concerned for him so she lay down beside him and rested her head on top of him. She kept him company and helped him relax until Jordann was home.
About1 ½ months later, Tofu felt and looked much better. He ate three times a day and he added weight pretty fast. He’s gone a long way and he’s ready for a fresh start.
Jordann and Tofu were perfect together, but keeping him meant she may not be able to foster another dog again. So instead, she found him a new home. His new family loved him so much and she couldn’t be any happier for him.
