Courtney Ivan is an emergency responder who works with Elite EMS. Their team provides emergency services to the residents of Mercer County in Pennsylvania and are commonly called for critical cases that require immediate attention. They never expect when a call will come in and what awaits them.
Elite EMS has numerous moments when they have saved the lives of the people they serve. There are also those times when it is too late to save the person in need. They have this one particular case though where they may not have saved a man from dying, but they gave his dog another chance at life.
Mean or friendly?
Courtney and her team responded to an emergency call one day, and they arrived just after the firefighters got there. The medical responders were told that the man was already dead and there was a dog inside the house. They were warned that the pet was a bit aggressive and stayed away from people.
As a volunteer for the local Humane Society, Courtney is comfortable around all types of dogs. She has many experiences in approaching them. The pet, an Australian Cattle dog, must have sensed this as she didn’t show any signs of aggression when the brave paramedic gently approached.
In fact, she was very friendly and even allowed Courtney to touch and hug her.
Unwanted
After taking the body to a morgue, the responders informed the man’s family of his death. They also told them that he left a dog behind. No one knew that the deceased man owned a dog and nobody wanted to take his pet. They said that the dog should just be euthanized.
As a dog lover, Courtney couldn’t allow that to happen. So she took the homeless pooch along with them. She talked to the rest of the crew, and they decided to foster the dog. They already had a pooch in their headquarters, and having one more wouldn’t hurt
Eventually, the dog became so close to all of them that they decided to make her a permanent member of their team.
