Theoklitos Proestakis, also known as Takis, founded an amazing animal shelter on the island of Crete in Greece. Ever since Takis started rescuing dogs and other animals, he has found loving forever homes for a lot of them. He still continues rescuing strays and unwanted dogs in Crete and one of the most memorable rescues he did was for a neglected German Shepherd named Rex.
It all started when Takis received a phone call from a man who went up the mountains to pick some mushrooms. Takis was informed that a German Shepherd was chained to a tree in the middle of nowhere and that the dog was really thin and desperate for help.
Of course, Takis went straight to the mountain to rescue the German Shepherd who he later named Rex. When Takis saw Rex’s condition, he was angry and also felt pity for Rex. Rex wasn’t even aggressive and was happy to see Takis. He even let Takis pet him and show his belly, which is a sign of trust among dogs.
Takis also saw a tub near Rex which contained dried-up dog food, which could last him a day or two. Thankfully, Takis was able to come across Rex. As soon as Takis released Rex from his chains, all Rex wanted to do was jump inside the car. He was so happy to be finally free.
At first, Takis was afraid that Rex would be aggressive towards the other dogs in his shelter. He knew that dogs that have been chained up for some time can become aggressive. However, Rex proved to be a complete gentleman and got along with all the dogs at the shelter.
Over the next few weeks, Rex started gaining weight and his health improved thanks to the care and love that Takis and his team gave him. Whenever Rex sees Takis, he would always run up to him and give him puppy kisses and ask for belly rubs. It’s truly amazing how appreciative dogs are when we show them, love.
Rex has such a sweet personality that Takis is sure that he’ll get adopted quickly. Thanks to Takis Shelter, Rex was saved from his ordeal and will have another chance to find a loving forever home. Here’s a video of a heartwarming rescue story about Rex.
