Just Like Humans More Dogs Are Living With Chronic Health Conditions

Donte McNair September 22, 2022

Dogs have been living alongside humans for centuries, and in that time, they have become our best friends and loyal companions. In recent years, however, there has been an increase in the number of dogs suffering from chronic health conditions.

The diseases range from common conditions like allergies and arthritis to more serious illnesses like cancer and heart disease. While the exact causes of these conditions are often unknown, some risk factors have been identified.

What causes these diseases?

There are many possible causes of chronic health conditions in dogs. Genetics plays a role, as certain breeds are more prone to certain conditions than others. For example, Boxers and Bulldogs are predisposed to congenital heart disease, while German Shepherds are at increased risk for hip dysplasia.

Environmental factors can also contribute to the development of chronic health conditions. For example, exposure to toxins or pollutants may increase cancer risk. Poor nutrition can also lead to health problems such as obesity.

Finally, lifestyle choices can also impact a dog’s health. For example, dogs that don’t get enough exercise are more likely to develop joint problems like arthritis.

What can be done to prevent these diseases?

There is no surefire way to prevent all chronic health conditions in dogs. However, there are some things that you can do to reduce the risk. One of the best things you can do is ensure your dog gets plenty of exercise. A healthy weight is also essential, as obese dogs are at increased risk for many chronic health problems.

You should also feed your dog a high-quality diet and avoid giving them table scraps or other unhealthy foods. Finally, regular vet check-ups are essential for the early detection and treatment of any health problems that may develop.

Chronic illnesses can be managed if we take animal welfare seriously. Start by ensuring your dog lives healthy with plenty of exercise, a good diet, and regular vet check-ups.
