Vida, a Chihuahua, came from an abusive and neglectful household. She ended up at the Kern County Animal Services, and it was fortunate that Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue found her and pulled her out of her horrific situation. But while she was finally in safe hands, she still had a bigger issue to resolve.
During her medical examination, the vet revealed Vida had a severely broken jaw. She couldn’t eat or even drink water. She lost weight pretty fast, and there was no known surgery that could fix her.
Zach Skow, the founder of the organization, was inconsolable when he learned about Vida’s condition. He didn’t know what could actually be done to help the little dog. He was emotional, and he thought she won’t make it that long.
Vida was so fragile, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She weighed no more than five pounds. But despite her weak state, Zach saw her will to live, so he promised to do everything he could to help her live longer.
After several vet visits, the little Chihuahua underwent surgery and had her jaw removed. The moment she went out of the operating room, she no longer felt any pain. Zach knew she’ll be fine, and she’ll do great in life.
It didn’t take long and the dog started to eat and drink on her own. She looked a little different without a jaw, but she acted like a normal dog. She played and soaked all the attention of her rescuer and foster dad.
Marley’s Mutts put up Vida for adoption as soon as she got her medical clearance. They shared her story multiple times and waited for the perfect individual to come. Before long, the right person came.
Vida’s new mom loved her from the very start. She knew how special she was and she promised to provide her everything she needed. After all, she deserved nothing but the best in life.
