The Cause Of This Dog’s Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Will Bring You To Tears

Joseph McNair January 15, 2024

When someone mentions Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, war veterans are the ones that frequently come to mind. PTSD is a severe psychological condition that affects several individuals. But, it can also affect dogs and this story is about a dog that has PTSD and experiences convulsions anytime she is touched.

Darong is a common dog who has lived with the same family for thirteen years. She was formerly an extremely sensitive dog. She enjoys hugs, kisses, and other tactile displays of affection.

Four years ago, an event occurred that profoundly altered Darong. Since a certain incident, Darong has not permitted anyone to touch her. Ownership is included

Initially, the veterinarian believed Darong’s illness was associated with her brain and spine. Yet, because she only responded to particular stimuli, the veterinarian diagnosed her with PTSD. The dog’s mental troubles also caused bodily harm.

When Darong is confronted with a raised hand, she cowers in fear. This suggests she may have endured something terrible. Darong might have witnessed her mother being abused four years ago. This is what the owners believe occurred.

The proprietor was moved to tears when she recalled the episode. She wished she had been more attentive to Darong. During that period, the owner’s husband was ill, necessitating a shift in priorities. She was reassured by the dog specialist that she shouldn’t feel so terrible for her dog.

Despite the past, there is always an answer. Mr. Chanjong, the dog specialist, suggested using a mirror to assist Darong to overcome his phobia. The dog is facing the mirror as the owner’s hand approaches it. It was the method used to reassure Darong that there is nothing to worry about.

The next phase was removing the mirror to make Darong more comfortable. This strategy was successful because, within a short period of time, Darong’s owner was able to pet him without negative consequences.
