What to Do If Your Dog Won’t Eat

What to Do If Your Dog Won’t Eat

Donte McNair April 18, 2022

Are you wondering what to do if your dog doesn’t eat? You’re not alone. A lot of pet parents are worried when their furry friend skips a meal. There could be a lot of reasons why your dog isn’t eating. It could be because he is sick, not interested in his food, or just being picky.

Here are a few tips on how to get your dog to eat:

         1. Check to see if your dog is sick

If your dog is vomiting, has diarrhea, or is lethargic, it’s best to take him to the veterinarian. There could be a serious health issue causing your dog not to eat. Avoid giving medicine that is not prescribed by a vet to your dog, as it could make the condition worse.

         2. Try different foods

Some dogs just aren’t interested in the food that is being offered to them. Mix up the types of food you are giving your dog and see if he has any preference. There are also a lot of different brands of pet food on the market, so you might want to try a few to see which one he likes best.

3 . Feed him smaller meals more often

If your dog isn’t eating because he’s full, try feeding him smaller meals more often throughout the day instead of one large meal. This will help his stomach feel less stretched out and hopefully get him interested in eating again.

         4. Stimulate his appetite

You can try to stimulate your dog’s appetite by giving him a little bit of water with his food or heating up his food in the microwave. Some dogs also like their food served wet instead of dry.

          5. Try a doggy diet supplement

If you’ve tried all of the above and your dog still isn’t eating, you might want to try a doggy diet supplement. These supplements are made specifically for dogs who have trouble eating or losing weight. They come in different flavors and can be added to your dog’s food.

Dogs can skip meals for a lot of different reasons, but most of the time it is nothing to worry about. It feels bad to see your dog sad and not eating, but with a few tricks up your sleeve, you can help him get back to his old self in no time.
