Are Puppies Born to Interact with People?

Are Puppies Born to Interact with People?

Joseph McNair July 8, 2021

Puppies are known for being cute, lovable creatures that people love to have around. However, are they really born with the intention of bonding and interacting with humans?

The answer is a little complicated but can be summarized in one word – no. Puppies are not inherently programmed to interact with humans; it’s something they learn over time. But how do puppies learn about human interaction?

The first interaction a puppy has with humans is when they are born. The breeder will usually handle the litter of puppies and introduce them to human touch, sound, and language from an early age which can help form their opinions about whether or not they like being around people.

What are some other ways that puppies can learn about human interaction?

Puppies also interact with humans through their owners. If a puppy is raised in a home where people are constantly coming and going, then they’re more likely to be comfortable around strangers as well.

If the puppy is raised in a home where people are not around as much, then they will be more likely to shy away from strangers.

The way that puppies are treated by their owners also helps them form an opinion about whether or not they like being around humans.

If a dog’s owner yells at him when he does something wrong, for example, the dog is likely to figure out that people are not always fun.

How can I teach my puppy to be comfortable around humans?

Puppies are born with the instinct to interact and play with other animals, including people. There are a few different things that you could do to help your dog become more comfortable around strangers.

You could enroll them in training classes where they will learn basic commands such as “sit” and “stay.” You could also teach them to be calm in new situations, such as being touched or handled by strangers.

By doing these things, you are allowing your puppy to learn that people are not always scary while teaching him basic commands he’ll need for everyday life.
