Dog From North Carolina Abandoned By Owner For Being Gay Gets Adopted By A Gay Couple

DOG STARING

A North Carolina couple named Steve Nichols and John Winn adopted a rescue dog named Fezco. Before his adoption, the adorable dog had an owner who abandoned him at an animal shelter for one reason: he thought Fezco was gay.

Fezco’s former owner caught him humping another male dog, and he didn’t like it. It was enough for him to surrender the poor dog to Stanly County Animal Protective Services, an animal shelter based in North Carolina. Thankfully, this sad event became happy when Nichols and Winn gave Fezco a second chance. A same-sex couple adopting a dog suspected of being gay is enough to make it to the national headlines!

Nichols and Winn, who live near the shelter, shared how they discovered Fezco. One morning, Nichols saw the dog’s unusual story in the local newspaper, which captured his attention. He also watched the video coverage of the dog on television before he approached Winn about adopting the dog.

Nichols expressed his sentiments to Winn that during the 33 years they’ve been together as a same-sex couple, they also experienced the same ignorance and bigotry from other people as Fezco did. So it was fitting that they had to do something about it.

Shortly after, Nichols contacted the television station, and the reporter who covered the story assisted him in reaching out to the shelter. And less than 48 hours later, the couple signed Fezco’s adoption papers. And later on, they decided to rename Fezco to Oscar.

The story didn’t end after the adoption. The couple discovered that Oscar dealt with health issues, so they admitted him to Pressly Animal Hospital in Matthews, North Carolina. Oscar then underwent treatment for heartworms, was neutered, and received a health check.

In addition, the resident veterinarian, Dr. William Pressly, explained that Oscar’s behavior had nothing to do with his sexuality. In a separate interview, Nichols also quipped that Oscar despises having his photograph taken, and no gay person does not wish to have their photograph taken! However, we’re sure that Oscar’s sexuality wouldn’t have been an issue.

Oscar is after the iconic playwright and poet Oscar Wilde, who also happens to be gay. Nichols and Winn enjoy naming their pets after humans, and they would refrain from using names like “Fluffy” or “Sparky.” The three live happily in their home, filled with joy and unconditional love.
