A Washington D.C.-based charity organization called Animal Rescue Corps sent their rescuers to Tennessee when they got a request for assistance from the Macon County Animal Control. They had a mission to save 21 dogs abandoned by their owner, and the local shelter needed all the help they could get.
Eviction notice
The story started when a property owner visited his building to see his tenant. The property was being used as a store, and it had living quarters next to it. The old man had not paid his rent for over a year, and he went there to serve him an eviction notice. But when the owner got there, he was stunned to see that his property was left in shambles and numerous dogs were trapped inside.
The owner called the Macon County Animal Control and reported the matter. As they did not have the human resources to handle such a large number of rescues simultaneously, they called the Animal Rescue Corps for assistance.
Filth
The two groups entered the old building and were greeted by the strong smell of animal waste. The floors were filled with filth, and the whole place was trashed. Broken furniture and appliances were everywhere.
The dogs, many of them as thin as a reed, were hungry and dehydrated. They also had various health issues. Respiratory problems were a common issue with the abandoned creatures. The rescuers took the dogs out and loaded them into crates.
Animal Rescue Corps will take care of them until they can find other rescue groups to help them find their foster or forever homes.
Hospice care
After an investigation by the local authorities, they learned that the dog’s owner was brought to hospice care when they found out that he was dying. The man didn’t get the chance to find anyone to take his dogs away.
