Non Shedding Dog Breeds (including 4 of our favorites)

Non Shedding Dog Breeds (including 4 of our favorites)

Joseph McNair August 19, 2021

Our domesticated dogs might have been bred to be man’s best friend but that doesn’t mean they’re without their special quirks, including shedding fur and causing allergies with it. A recent British survey found that 5-15% of the UK population suffer to some extent from an allergy to dogs.

Luckily, there are non-shedding breeds and they don’t require much in terms of maintenance. These dogs are great for people who have allergies and for those who don’t want to worry about their pet shedding on the furniture and carpeting.

The popularity of non-shedding dog breeds is increasing because more people are becoming aware of the health benefits that come with owning one, as well as the time saved from not having to clean up after the dog.

Some non-shedding dog breeds include:

Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu is a breed of dog that originated in China as a companion dog for the elderly and infirm. It has been given the nickname “fuzzy lion” due to its furry appearance.

The Shih Tzu coat doesn’t shed, the fur only falls out when brushed or broken.

Poodle

Poodles are intelligent, lively, and incredibly social dogs with plenty of personalities. They also have the advantage of being a breed that sheds little to no fur.

Poodles also have a reputation as excellent lapdogs but they are athletic enough to take part in agility competitions as well.

Scottish Terrier

Scottish Terriers are often referred to as the “gentle giants” of dog breeds because they are surprisingly gentle and calm. Some people also like Scottish Terriers because they have a very low amount of fur, which means you don’t have to worry about mountains of dog fur all over your home.

Owning a Scottish Terrier is one of the most rewarding pet decisions to make, especially if you are looking for a low-maintenance pet.

West Highland White Terrier

Your West Highland White Terrier will make you the envy of your neighbors who are always left with dog fur all over their houses. Apart from shedding little fur, West Highland White Terriers are intelligent and are highly affectionate dogs.

They are small to the medium-sized type of dog that originates from Scotland. The breed was created by breeding Scottish terriers with dogs imported from England and France in order to create an athletic, well-muscled dog that could match the athleticism of larger breeds as well as carry out work tasks such as hunting vermin on farms.

What is the calmest non-shedding dog?

The Xoloitzcuintli is the calmest non-shedding dog. They shed minimal fur, so they do not require frequent grooming like other breeds.

The Xoloitzcuintli is also a breed of dog with a coat that is hypoallergenic. This makes the Xoloitzcuintli the perfect breed for people who are prone to allergies.

Conclusion

When it comes to owning a dog, you should strongly consider choosing a non-shedding breed. This will help you save time and money by preventing the constant cleaning of your home from fur that gets on everything.

A non-shedding hypoallergenic dog breed is also an excellent choice for people who have allergies, asthma, or other health conditions and they will not shed fur that can cause breathing problems.

Whatever non-shedding dog you choose, we’re sure it’ll be a great companion and addition to your family.
