Shih Tzu Undergoes A Complex Surgery – He Loses His Teeth But Regains His Smile

Shih Tzu Undergoes A Complex Surgery – He Loses His Teeth But Regains His Smile

Joseph McNair June 19, 2023

Doong is a handsome and loving Shih Tzu. He lives with his human dad and sister and he loves them so much. He sticks by their side all the time and they are happy and blessed to have him in their lives.

Like good siblings, Doong and his sister do everything together. They stroll and play at the park, watch TV, eat dinner, and take naps on the couch. They also love taking selfies because every picture they have reminds them of how lucky they are to be together.

In one of their photos, however, his sister noticed something wasn’t right. There was something in his mouth that wasn’t supposed to be there, to begin with. Worried and somehow abashed, she decided to take him for a medical check-up, and she was astounded by what the vet had to say.

The six-year-old dog started to grow a lump on his gum. It was so small at first but it quickly grew in size. It would be difficult to operate on him, according to the vets, and the only option given was to put him to sleep. And of course, his family refused.

Doong’s sister brought him back home and continued to care for him instead. She didn’t think it was right to give up on him just like that. She and her dad sought ways how to manage his condition and augment his life.

Fortunately enough, a local animal welfare group stepped in and offered to help. They took Doong to a specialty care hospital in the city, and while the specialists admitted his condition was serious, they also revealed that surgery was, in fact, an option.

The dog underwent extensive examinations, and then, he proceeded with the surgery. He braved a very complex procedure where he lost almost all of his teeth. But in return, he gained back his life and his precious smile.

Doong looks a tad peculiar now that he no longer has his lower teeth. He is still very cute, nonetheless. But the most essential among all other things is that he can eat on his own again, and he will continue to live long with his loving family.
