The Best Alert, Adorable Guard Dog Breeds That Will Protect Your Home And Family

The Best Alert, Adorable Guard Dog Breeds That Will Protect Your Home And Family

Joseph McNair November 22, 2021

There are so many breeds out there that all have unique skills and qualities. While some dogs make affectionate and adorable family pets, others make alert and attentive guard dogs. But what if you would like to combine these assets together and own a dog that is both an adorable family pet and an alert, protective guard dog? If this is the case, here are some breeds that may just be for you:

– Australian Shepherd

These dogs may not look overly fierce in terms of appearance, but they do make great guard dogs. Aussies have a rather adorable appearance and a playful, active nature, but they are attentive and alert dogs that will protect your home and family. Aussies are very loyal and affectionate to their family but quite aloof with strangers. They will be quick to let you know of their presence by barking.

– German Shepherd

German Shepherds have been a favored dog breed for a very long time, and that is due to a couple of reasons. Not only are they one of the best protective breeds, but they are also incredibly loyal, adorable, and affectionate toward their family. The German Shepherd will not only keep you company but will also make sure no harm comes your way.

– Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog is an adorable and fluffy family dog who is very loving toward his family and incredibly gentle with kids. At the same time, this dog’s ancestors were bred to guard livestock in the mountains, which gave them the traits they need to protect their home and family. Bernese Mountain Dogs are fearless, alert, and will instantly let you know if an intruder is on your property.

– Akita

Akitas can come in two types: Japanese and American. These dogs look like cuddly and adorable bears and are one of the most loyal dog breeds. They are affectionate and loving toward their family, but very aloof and watchful toward strangers. These dogs are courageous, alert, and extremely protective. However, Akitas often need an owner who has had quite a bit of experience with dogs, as they can sometimes be difficult to handle.

– Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees is another dog breed that is loving and incredibly loyal to its household. They are one of the best protective breeds due to their great fearlessness and bravery. In fact, these dogs were kept as guardians for livestock and would chase away predators such as wolves away from the flock. The great Pyrenees have an adorable, bear-like appearance and yet are alert, strong, and powerful guard dogs.
