Before moving in, the new owners of a house in Nebraska hired cleaners to prepare the property for their arrival. The former occupant was a woman who passed away over a year ago. Since then, nobody has visited the property.
During their cleaning, the hired help came across a terrifying scene. A dog with matted fur was hiding in one of the dirty rooms. She was filthy and smelly. Nobody had informed them that the former owner had a dog.
The sad dog was quickly taken by animal control police and transported to the local humane society. The personnel at the animal shelter claimed that Ellie Mae’s matted hair was the worst case that they had ever seen. Her fur has become thick and brittle due to exposure to filth, water, muck, and feces.
Veterinarians had to sedate Ellie Mae so she would not experience any pain or discomfort when they cleaned her up. Approximately one hour later, they had successfully removed nine pounds of excess fur and everything that was stuck to it.
Thankfully, the increased weight did not prevent blood flow to her extremities. This signified that her legs were in good condition and there was nothing to worry about on that part.
The staff was not yet finished, however. The dog still needed to have her nails cut and her teeth worked on. Additionally, she was treated for a hernia and several infections. She had so many health issues that if she hadn’t been discovered by the cleaners, she would have eventually succumbed to them.
Ellie Mae was soon relocated to a foster home, where she completed her therapy. She has recovered well and evolved into a lovable and friendly dog. The eleven-year-old Shih Tzu is now available for adoption. It wouldn’t be difficult for a family to fall in love with her due to her kind nature.
