Overseas Firefighter Mailed One Of His Shirts To His Beloved Dog That Misses Him

Overseas Firefighter Mailed One Of His Shirts To His Beloved Dog That Misses Him

Joseph McNair June 6, 2026

Brindle used to be a sad little doggy before JD Aument and his wife, Rachel, decided to pick him up. He was still a pup when the two adopted him from an animal shelter in Pennsylvania. Both of his new human parents openly welcomed him, and he couldn’t be any more ecstatic. But Brindle isn’t the only furry member in his forever family.

The couple owns another dog named Xander. The two dogs very much care about their parents and love one another. But between the two of them, Brindle was more intimate with JD and is his favorite. Xander, on the other hand, leans towards Rachel.

Brindle and JD built a strong relationship, making them very close. Sadly, the bond will be put to the test when JD is deployed as an Army Reserve overseas firefighter. After nine months away from his family, Brindle had a hard time dealing with it.

He felt sad, and Rachel could see it too. Brindle had days when he sat in front of a window and howled, waiting for his human father to come home. Rachel didn’t want their dog to feel sad. Instead, she told JD everything about Brindle missing him.

JD never wanted Brindle to feel alone, so he decided to cheer him up by mailing his used, unwashed shirt that still had his scent. When the package arrived, Rachel gave it to Brindle and put it on the floor. He smelled it and immediately knew it was his owner’s shirt. Being so happy made him rub his body over the shirt, and he felt comforted by it.

Before handing it over to their dog, Rachel took a quick moment for herself, knowing she held something from her husband, whom she missed as well. Brindle had it with him every day and eventually slept with it. Rachel thought it would be easier for him to wear the shirt instead. He looks cozy in his dad’s shirt.

After months of waiting, they got good news: JD was coming home soon. His return brought joy to the family, especially to Brindle. He was happy to have his dad back and didn’t want to waste any precious time with him.
