Woman Spent Three Hours Each Day For A Month Trying To Save Three Cane Corsos Dumped In The Mountain

Woman Spent Three Hours Each Day For A Month Trying To Save Three Cane Corsos Dumped In The Mountain

Joseph McNair March 8, 2026

When a woman named Veronica went on a hike on the Angeles National Forest, she noticed a huge black thing move around a curve. She looked over and realized it was a dog. It climbed up the side of the cliff and ventured into the trees.

Veronica followed the dog and realized there were three instead of one. She knew she needed to get them off the mountain, but rescuing three Cane Corsos was no joke. She called animal control but the officers told him the terrain was extremely dangerous and there was nothing they could do to help.

Without assistance, Veronica decided to do things her way. She went back to the mountain the following day and worked on gaining the dogs’ trust by offering them food. The animals starved so she made sure to bring lots of food and water for them every day.

Veronica spent two to three hours each day with Gracie, Steve, and George. She even brought her dad to the mountains at times. She knew right from the start that it would take so much time and effort to get the dogs to trust her, but she was patient and she was ready for it.

Eventually, Veronica gained the dogs’ trust. The first time they ate straight from her hand, she almost cried. It made her so happy but also made her realized that rescuing three dogs posed its own problems.

The rescuer reached out to several organizations until she got in contact with the right people. I Stand With My Pack, Deity Animal Rescue, and Paws For Life K9 took the initiative and worked together to get the dogs off of the mountain. Together with Dog Days Search and Rescue and Montrose Search and Rescue, they set up humane traps and safely secured the dogs.

No one knew how long the dogs lived in fear. But now that Gracie, Steve, and George are in a safe place, they can relax and feel more at ease. And pretty soon, their new forever families will come and bring them home.
